All Aboard!

Just out on a little exploratory trip around DC. I'm exploring the city whenever I can and checking out the great architecture. Today's stop is Union Station. A very cool place to just hang out and watch the world hurry by!!

Get Your Motor Running!!!

While those who know me know I'm not much of a fan of "Professional" Sports I do have to say I do have a soft spot for two kinds of motor sports. F1, go fast/turn left & right/and don't quit racing when it starts to rain!! But to me that's better on TV, lots of angles and you can follow the action you can never see on the track...
But the best kind of racing from the fan perspective, as far as I'm concerned, is Drag Racing! The combination of the "Win or Go Home" format, the sheer POWER & most of all the access to the pits, the drivers & the cars make it fun to go to the track for a day.
And to top if off I have a friend who also happens to be a driver which makes it even more fun to have someone you know to root for! So when my friend Mike was racing within driving distance I just had to go to Norwalk and say hi!! It's always great fun when he can "Run the Number"! (that's racing talk)... -S

Leaders of Tomorrow

Here I am hanging with the outgoing (in more ways than one) National Officer Team for DECA. This the departing officer team for this year as they head off to college after hosting the National Leadership Conference this year in Salt Lake City, UT. -S

East Meets West.

You know frequently it really is about timing... When your just tooling down the road and you see a sign for Promatory, UT the location of the "Golden Spike" where the railroads from San Francisco and Omaha finally joined to link the east and west coasts, well you just have to stop and check it out! But back to the part about timing... it seems that when I got there they were in the middle of a much need, and much appreciated, Re-Hab. Of course that meant that the plaque was missing from the monument and many of the displays were "closed for renovation"... But hey, I can say I've been there, seen that! -S

Ride On Baby!!

Still in Nebraska (NE) on the road to Seattle, the road does indeed continue on flat and straight so a "Bio/Stretch Break" is definitely in order. This marker is on a Pony Express Stop in Gothenburg, NE one of many of the acknowledgements to the strength and stamina of the early riders pushing forward communications with one of the first examples of what one could call "Hoof-net", the predecessor of "Sneaker-Net"!! -S

Now this is inventive space useage...

Who'd a thunk it... with all the land and space for miles crusing west on I-80 outside of Kearney, NE what do you see but a big covered bridge spanning the freeway! The "Archway Monument" is a roadside stop/"Museum" to commemorate the great move west... I think I know how the existing residents of the area felt about that move... Westward Ho. -S

A "Romantic Moment" on the road...

It's been a busy day with lots of stops but sunset at the "Hogback Bridge" just outside of Winterset, IA was an excellent way to end the day. At least the daylight portion of the day (there was still plenty of driving yet to do). The Hogback Bridge is one of the bridges made famous by the book "The Bridges of Madison County" and of course the movie of the same name. -S

The Birthplace of Marion Michael Morrison

Can you tell me what Winterset, IA is famous for??? That's right, the birthplace of Marion Michael Morrison, aka... John Wayne podner (or partner if you prefer)!!! From a quiet little house on a quite little street in a quiet little town came... -S

A little baseball homage...

While driving thru lovely Iowa on my way from Cedar Rapids to Seattle (not a short jaunt) I decided to follow my nose a bit and see what the country side had to offer. I say a sign for this museum for Iowa native Bob Feller at the Van Meter exit and decided to make a stop. Unfortunately they were closed for the day by the time I got there but I thought this brick relief was worthy of a shot for sure! -S
