Advisor to Presidents

I was in NYC for a couple of days and who should I run into while grabing lunch at Planet Hollywood but Jack Valenti! We had a nice chat but then we both had "places to be, people to see"... -S

ARG!

Yes Matie, here I am during my application process to join the Seattle Seafair Pirates. Unfortunately the position of "ship's dog" was already taken, I didn't ask for details. But there were no hard feelings and we all shared a round of "Adult Beverages" on the deck at Ray's before they headed out to their next port of call. -S

Looking back in history.

Here I am with the instructors and graduates of another successful Underwater Archeology training class, this one of the St. Mary's River. The diver survey training is just one of the many activities sponsored by MAHS, The Maritime Archaeological and Historical Society. -S

Fish Water Park

The pipeline behind me is actually a "water slide" for fish. Salmon to be specific. The pipeline allows the fish to be diverted around the dam and be counted based on the "PIT" tags embedded in the fish. Hope they like the ride!! -S

A Dam Fine Location

Just a lovely day in May here in Eastern Washington State on the banks of the Columbia River at the McNary Dam. I love the variety of places that work takes us! -S

NOW We're Talking

Now while you have to respect "The King" for everything he did. (you know, bringing black music to white america) I'm really more of a Blues guy myself so visiting Beale Street in Memphis. While Beale Street still hops at night, it has been turned into a bit of a cartoon intrupration of it's former self I'm afraid. (and I know cartoons of course) But that doesn't reduce the impact Memphis and Beale Street have had on the Blues. So no visit to Memphis would be complete without a visit to the W.C. Handy Park. Got to go "Got a Hell Hound On My Trail"... -S

All Hail The King!

After yesterdays fine day of Traditional Music when I realized how close I was to Memphis I just couldn't start the long trip home without a little pilgimage to a couple of holy sites for music lovers of all tastes...

First of course it was a stop at Graceland the home and now monument to Elivs Presley. I'm sure it wasn't a "busy day" in the world of Elvis Tours but the lines were too much for me. (actually any line would have probably been too much for me to be honest) Anyway, I opted for the more casual tour which meant that hanging by the stone wall designed to keep the "riff-raff" out but from the looks of the wall I wasnt' the first... -S

"I'm with the band"

Rolled on down to Tennessee this week to help a friend shoot video for a DVD on Rural Traditional Music. We hung out all day in a great "One Room Schoolhouse" that was built by our host Ellis in his backyard for just such occasions. -S

As I take a last look at the views from Kentuck Knob I continue to marvel at the creativity that could create such a place! -S

The Master's Mark

One of the unusual features of Kentuck Knob is that it still retains it's "Signature Tile". Frank Lloyd Wright's "autograph" on this work of art. -S

Experiencing Art.

Just up the road from Falling Water is Kentuck Knob another interesting addition to the Frank Lloyd Wright portfolio. One of the interesting additions to Kentuck Knob is a large outdoor sculpture garden with a diverse collection of contemporary sculpture. Definitely also worth the drive! -S

The Wright Stuff...

I know it was tacky, sorry. But I have to admit I am a big fan of Frank Lloyd Wright. Which made a can't miss opportunity to visit his house know as "Falling Water" in Pennsylvania when I was working in the area. If your anywhere in the area it is definately worth the trip. It's a beautiful drive into the country and a great destination for a daytrip! -S

Oh, and it was "BikeWeek" too.

There's not really much to say about this shot other than it was instigated by long standing request by my friend Steve.
And that Bike Week attendees are very social group and amenable to the odd requests of strangers...

A day at the beach continued.

I just don't know what to say other than what could be better than hangin' out at the beach, sipping on a Corona and making new friends, IN THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY! -S

A Day at the Beach.

Working HARD in Orlando, FL this week! But we had a "Dark Day" (show speak for nothing for us to do, yea) so I met up with some local friends and we went off on an Airboat tour of the local wetlands, sorry no pix from there of the crocks). But after the high stakes adventure of the morning we thought we'd better "rehydrate" with a stop in Coco Beach. -S
